Essentially a realistic novel, it does contain passages of almost hallucinatory terror that stick in the readers mind long after it is finished, though on occasions during the middle section I felt this was perhaps overdone, devaluing to an extent the otherwise impeccable realism that is the “The Fixers” major strength.
Then he is mistreated in prison. Their cruelty, ignorance, and irrationality make me abhor them,particularly the History of Anti-Semiticism. So for a Jew it was the same wherever he went, he carried a remembered pack on his back-a condition of servitude, diminished opportunity, fixr.
